NW: DoR: Chapter 4: Deterrence by *Shattered-Universe:iconShattered-Universe:

Chapter 4:  Deterrence
Already, as if it were nothing, a week in the Novus Facility had passed.  There were some hostilities, but it seemed that it was nothing that his new roommates and Lt. Alberon couldn’t tackle.  That is, until today.  Alphons was heading to claim his laundry for the week when yet another ordinary scuffle broke out in the halls.  Lt. Alberon, who was there at his side, moved in to break the fight up.  This distraction worked when the second group made their move, separating Alphons from safety.  His attempt to escape proved to be futile, as he quickly was backed into a corner.  Surrounded by a gang of anthro-wolves, he figured that he would have to deal with a fight sooner or later.
“Heh!  You didn’t honestly think we’d just let you bypass your initiation here, didya?!  Oh, I’m gonna enjoy this!”  The lead wolf cackled as he moved in, but was in for a big surprise.  Alphonse cowered back, raising his arm in front of him.  It was this action that once more awakened his sleeping abilities.  Jets of flame shot from his hand, setting his would-be attacker on fire with a pained yelp.  He thrashed about in an attempt to put out the flames, eventually burning out all his energy to stifle the fire.
“What the hell?!,” Replied one of the wolves.
“That guy’s a freak!”  Exclaimed another.
“Let’s get out of here!”  Conceded a third.
However, waiting for them all was a rather angry Lt. Alberon, who quickly dispatched the three runners with his close-quarter martial-arts.  He quickly picked Alphons up from the ground and confirmed his status.  “Well, it looks like you’re all right, but that guy sure isn’t.”  Lt. Alberon checked the attacker next, assessing the damage from Alphons’ counterattack.  “You really did a number on this guy.  I think if this lesson gets passed through the Grey Wing, it’ll be good deterrence against further attempts on your life.”
“I suppose.  Look, all I wanted was to live in peace, like the rest of my village.  Why did they have to die?”  Alphons inquired.
Lt. Alberon sighed.  “Look, kid, I didn’t like the idea of having to massacre those civilians, either, hence why I stayed out of that op.  Unfortunately, what’s done is done, and there’s no point in changing that.  Furthermore, I’m sorry to say this, but you probably won’t have much peace anymore.  With your abilities, you’ll likely be transferred to become a child-soldier once you hone your abilities as an Adept.”
“Well, if that’s the case, then I hope I never get my powers.  I don’t want to be a weapon of war, or a tool of death,” replied a solemn Alphons.
The conversation was being monitored, however, and a wide smile grew across the face of the head-doctor at Novus.  “Well now, reluctance like that won’t do.  You’ll get your powers, all right, or my name isn’t Dr, Hoenheim Leingott, master of Genetic Development!”  The doctor laughed in his chamber, content with the day’s events.

Author's Comments

Well, it's only like 3 days later than I'd planned, and even still, I'm not sure if I like how this chapter turned out. I'd really like some comments on this one.

Oh, and yeah, remember that monologue opener with the 3 characters? Here's one of them, after his successful entry into A-D-V-E-N-T corp.
